In 2017-2018, the DIY's objective was to help the local community of Mai Châu, Vietnam, during the 2018 Summer. To make this mission possible, the society has been very creative and innovative for its first attempt at fundraising. Among other things, along with the arts society of Dauphine - "CAM Society" -, the society has organised a gala. On its own, this event had already brought up to £1,300.
With this money, the society has been able to really help the children of the local community. Most notably, the DIY has participated in the funding and construction of additional classrooms, under the supervision of professionals. Moreover, as a group composed of young adults, the DIY has been pleased to entertain the local children with several activities, like football or drawing.
OUR TRIP TO NEPAL
The following year, the DIY's objective was to bring help to the village Jitpur Phedi Tinpiple, near Kathmandu in Nepal, during three weeks of the 2019 Summer. Once again, the society was able to count on its voluntary members to raise the necessary funds for the mission to be a success. For instance, the society has once again organised a very successful charity gala, still in partnership with the CAM Society, raising up to £1,000. Additionally, the society has organised several lunch sales throughout the year to the students of Dauphine to finance the trip and the material that the society would bring along to Nepal.
In Nepal, the society was hosted by two very benevolent families. There, the members have helped in building a new school by carrying bricks and sand to the required places. Also, the team has taught some lessons to the young children in order to make up for the lack of teachers. Finally, a big part of our time in Nepal was spent playing with the children different fun and enjoyable games. Hula hoop, Pictionary, singing and the game of the crocodile are some examples of the activities that the children have loved.
